Mangaluru, Mar 19: Hundreds of angry locals vandalised a check-post at Manjeswaram and damaged a few vehicles as a mark of protest against frequent traffic snarls and fatal accidents in the locality on Friday.

The police said Mohammed Shahban, 22, a student of a college in Mengaluru, was fatally knocked down by a truck carrying fish around 7.30 p.m.
The mob smashed the glass panes of five KSRTC buses parked on the National Highway and overturned two jeeps of the Excise and Commercial Taxes departments and also damaged the glass panes of the car of Superintendent of Police A. Srinivas and another car used by Manjeswaram Sub-Inspector of Police C. Pramod.
The local people said as many as 10 accidents had occurred in the locality over the last one year. In most cases, these were caused due to unscientific parking of cargo vehicles in and around the narrow National Highway stretch near the border check-post.
Meanwhile, a team of officials led by Dr. Srinivas engaged in conciliatory talks with the mob.
The police have registered cases against 250 people in connection with the incidents.
