Mangaluru, Dec 7: Dr B R Ambedkar is not only a national icon but also he is a global icon, said Prof. Vivek kumar, Professor of Sociology in JNU.

He was delivering the keynote address after inaugurating a national seminar,Dr B R Ambedkar perspectives on Dalit Politics and Empowerment in India' and Dr B R Ambedkar's 60th Mahaparinirvan Day at Mangala Auditorium of Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri, here on Tuesday.
“Dr Ambedkar is known as a Dalit leader. He is the maker of Indian constitution. He is also a nation builder. He was also defending the position of an individual, as well as society,” he said.
He said that self responsibility is necessary for Dalits, other backward classes and for all individuals.
He further said that, because of Dr Ambedkar lot of amendments were made out of 7635 amendments of constitution. Books, Journals, paper clippings, direct observation, interviews with peoples had been source and foundation of his knowledge, he opined.
He also spoke about Dr Ambedkar's involvement in political and social reforms, his process of nation building, and the nature of constitution comparing 91 other constitutions of the world.
Prof K Byrappa, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University presided over. Prof K M Lokesh, Registrar of Mangalore University, Prof Vishwanatha, Director, Centre for Dr B R Ambedkar Studies, were present.
