Mangaluru, Feb 8: In a daring burglary, unidentified miscreants broke into a jewellery shop on Bhavanti Street in the city and made away with more than 1.8 kg of gold jewellery worth around Rs 50 lakh and a cash amount of Rs 3,000.

The broad daylight burglary came to light when the owner of the Gulab Jewellers located in front of Roopavani Talkies returned to the shop at around 4 p.m. after finishing lunch on Saturday.
The Mangaluru North police said that a group of persons entered the shop from the back by reportedly digging a hole through the outer wall.
The police said that the hole was dug after the owner Manjunath Sanu, a resident of Mannagudde, locked the shop and left for his house for lunch around 2 p.m.
Mr. Sanu had reportedly switched off three closed-circuit television cameras before going for lunch.
The police said that there were clues that persons known to Mr. Sanu were involved in the theft. The police have collected fingerprints and other evidence.
