Mangaluru, Sep 10: A youth was killed and another sustained severe injuries after a speeding lorry rammed into a motorbike on National Highway 66 at Kotekar Beeri on the outskirts of the city.

The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Zakariya (23), a resident of Talapady Check Post. His friend Shihab (22), a resident of Talapady KC Road has been hospitalised. His condition is said to be critical.
The tragedy took place on Wednesday evening when Zakariya, after finishing his catering work, was returning home by his motorbike along with Shihab, who was riding pillion.
While the rider breathed his last on the spot pillion rider was rushed to a private hospital by local residents.
It is learnt that Zakariya had been working in Dubai for more than one year. After returning hometown, he had been doing a few small businesses. However, he was supposed to fly back to Gulf on September 18. He is survived by his parents, five brothers and a sister.
The accident triggered a flash protest on National Highway. Local residents at Beeri blocked heavy vehicles on highway for some time.
