Mangaluru International Airport hosts diabetes awareness campaign

Mangaluru, Nov 17: On the occasion of World Diabetes Day – 2016, Mangaluru International Airport in collaboration with Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute Ltd (IHHI) hosted an awareness campaign on diabetes which included a free health checkup camp in the premises of Mangaluru International Airport.

The health checkup camp was held on Tuesday from 09:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The World Diabetes Day focuses on a theme related to diabetes, a largely preventable and treatable non-communicable disease that is rapidly increasing in numbers worldwide.

The campaign was attended by over 250 people visiting the Airport from various walks of life such as Airline Passengers, Taxi Drivers, Airline and Airport Staff, CISF Personnel and general public.

The free health checkup camp had an assessment of Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure and Consultation by Doctors from Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute.

The campaign concluded with an interactive sessionPreventing and Managing Diabetes and the various attributes of Diabetes' hosted by Dr. Yusuf Kumble, Chief Interventional Cardiologist & Managing Director – IHHI Ltd. The session was attended by AAI Personnel and staff of various Airlines & Agencies.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
