Mangaluru, Jan 1: A groom-to-be was stabbed to death by his best friend after a clash erupted between them over indecent comments each other's women during a New Year party near Kuthar junction in Mangaluru taluk last night.
The victim has been identified as Rudravani Santhosh (25), a native of Davangere. His friend-turned killer Pradeep, a native of Shikaripur has surrendered himself at the Ullal police station after the incident.
Santhosh and Pradeep had become close friends after they began to work in a saloon owned by one Ramesh in Kuthar. On December 31, after finishing work, they decided to celebrate New Year in their rented room above the saloon. They brought a few bottles of liquor too.
According to sources, during the party Santosh reportedly objected Pradeep being close with a woman. This led to a heated argument between the friends as both were under the influence of alcohol. Santosh allegedly abused Pradeep's mother. In a fit of rage, the latter grabbed a kitchen knife and allegedly stabbed Santosh in the chest.
Hearing the noise, saloon owner Ramesh and neighbour Roshan rushed to the spot to witness a man lying in a pool of blood. Even though they shifted Santosh to a hospital, he was declared brought dead.
It is learnt that the victim's younger sister was scheduled to get married on February 15, and the victim himself was supposed to get marry in March.
