Mangaluru observes Vijay Diwas; People urged to unite against divisive forces

Mangaluru, Dec 16: Various organisations and individuals observed Vijay Diwas to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in 1971 at the War Memorial in Kadri in Mangaluru on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil said one has to get inspiration from wars and sacrifices. Amidst several forces working to divide Indians, they have to united fight against such divisive forces, he said.

Former MLC and retired Captain Ganesh Karnik said remembering the soldiers should not be confined to one day, but one should remember them throughout the year as they have been sacrificing their life for the country.

District Superintendent of Police B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda said one should think about one’s contribution to the country. Besides fighting the enemy from outside, one has to fight the enemy within, he said.

District Ex-Servicemen Association’s former president K.N. Bhandary said the day is being observed to remeber the sacrifice of Indian soldiers during the Indo-Pak war. Association Working President Deepak Adyanthaya, Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh, Coast Guard Commander, DIG, S.S. Dasila, Zilla Panchayat CEO R.Selvamani and others were present.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
