Mangaluru, Aug 22: In a major haul, the Mangaluru police have seized two pistols, 22 live rounds and MDMA crystals (commonly known as ecstasy) after arresting five notorious criminals.
The accused have been identified as T H Riyaz (38) a native of Kasaragod, presently residing at Innoli in Pavoor post; Usman Rafique (29) hailing from Salethur in Bantwal; Abdul Raouf V S (30) and Imtiyaz Ahmad (40) from Uppala in Kasaragod; and Hazwar (30) from Vittal in Bantwal.
The operation was carried out by the anti-rowdy squad of south sub-division of Mangaluru City Police on Tuesday. The squad headed by ACP (south) K Ramarao while on rounds received a tip off that the accused in a vehicle (KL-14-V-636) were on their way to Gurupura scouting for possible clients for the drugs in their possession.
The squad intercepted this vehicle near Parari junction and apprehended five persons travelling in it. Police seized the vehicle, 100 grams of MDMA crystals, pistols, live rounds, cell phone and cash from them.
Giving information about the operation to media persons here today, city police chief T R Suresh, said said that among the accused, Riyaz has more than 40 cases registered against him in police stations in Kerala and he sourced drugs from Mumbai and sold the same to clients locally. Warrants are pending against him in Payangadi and Bekal PS in Kasaragod district.
Seven cases are registered against Usman Rafique in Karnataka and Kerala. Usman is wanted in a murder case in Manjeshwar PS and for illegal possession of firearm at Sanjay Nagar PS in Bengaluru four months ago. Noting that he had come out of bail recently, Suresh said he has now been again nabbed with an illegal firearm.
Raouf from whom police seized a country made pistol actively assisted Riyaz run his drugs trade, Suresh said, adding Imtiyaz, fourth accused has three cases against him in Manjeshwar PS and is an active member of Riyaz’s drug trade too.
Mr Suresh said that Hazwar is an associate of Usman. All the accused and items seized from them valued at Rs 11.45 lakh has been handed over to Mangaluru Rural Police station for further action.
