Mangaluru police nab two Odisha men for murder of woman in Panambur

Mangaluru, Jan 20: The city police have nabbed two accused in connection with the murder case of a married woman from Madhya Pradesh who was found murdered in her rented room in Panambur station limits few days ago.

The police on Monday evening nabbed Ajju alias Ajju Pradhan (23), son of Bhikyari Pradhan and his uncle Vrindavan Pradhan (38), son of Raghu Pradhan, both hailing from Baniyan panchayat in Ganjam district in Odisha.

Addressing mediapersons at a press conference here on Tuesday, DCP (Crime & Traffic) Vishnuvardhana N said that both the accused had been residing in a rented room in the same building as the murdered woman Kalpana, who was found murdered in her room in Meenakaliya in Panambur on the outskirts of the city on January 13.

During preliminary investigation, sleuths from jurisdictional Panambur police station found that Kalpana had been bludgeoned to death with a boulder after being assaulted with a sharp weapon.

He said that a police team was formed and during a detailed inquiry, found that two persons residing in the same building had been missing since the night of the murder. Following this lead, the police team tracked the two accused to the railway station at Suratkal and arrested them. During interrogation, the two confessed to have murdered the woman, he informed, adding that the two worked as daily-wage labourers.

He also informed that as per the statements of the accused, they murdered the woman for having resisted their advances when they entered her room unwittingly on the night of January 12, while her husband was away. The weapons used by the accused have also been recovered by the police.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
