Chairman of Alva's Educational Foundation, Moodbidri Dr M Mohan Alva released copies of the reprinted book that was first released on May 2, 2015.

Speaking after releasing the book, he said that several Muslim writers had contributed towards Kannada language by penning novels and poetry, but this was not sufficient. The beauty of the society should be enhanced by more works written in Kannada language in order to increase its usage and popularity, he said.

Speaking on promoting regional languages, he said that with 17 languages officially recognised in the country despite the existence of over 3,000 regional languages, there should be efforts towards promoting the regional languages including Tulu, Konkani and Beary. The upcoming edition of Alva's cultural festival Nudisiri that will be held in the last week of November will promote Beary culture and language, he informed.

Speaking on the occasion, scholar and well-known writer Dr Taltaje Vasant Kumar provided insights in the book. Detailing the original story immortalised in the novel penned by Paulo Coelho, he shed light on the hidden meanings and the concept of destiny as told through the fictional journey of a shepherd Santiago.

"The story speaks to the reader about following his dream and fulfilling his destiny. The story of the journey of a young shepherd is a metaphor for every person who seeks to fulfill his destiny. In the novel, we become acquainted with the desert and its signs - something that is rare in Kannada literature," he said.

Translator of 'Rasavadi' (The Alchemist) Abdul Raheem Teekay said that the main intention of translating the novel to Kannada was to inspire underprivileged children to dream and aspire to follow their dreams.

Editor-in-chief of Vartha Bhartha Kannada daily Abdussalam Puthige delivered the presidential remarks. M B Abdul Rahman welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
