Mangaluru, Nov 18: The electrification work between Mangaluru and Shoranur town in Palakkad district will be completed soon, according to Southern Railway General Manager Rakesh Mishra.
Speaking to media persons at Kasargod on Monday after inspecting 132-km stretch of the Palakkad division between Mangaluru and Kannur, Mr Mishra said that the electrification of the 307-km Shoranur-Mangaluru stretch was going on in full swing.
The first phase of the work between Shoranur and Kozhikode would be completed by this financial year, he said.
Mr Mishra also said that the proposed passenger train between Kasargod and Byndoor in Udupi district would start operation shortly as efforts are under way to make available the rake for the train.
He said that the new train would prove a boon to the pilgrims visiting the Kollur Sri Mookambika temple from north Kerala.
Mr. Mishra, who inaugurated a Railway staff quarters near the Kasargod station, was received with a flood of memoranda by representatives of various organisations citing passenger woes.
In a memorandum by the Kasaragod and Kanhangad passengers' associations, Mr. Mishra was urged to take steps to extend the Ernakulam-Kannur intercity express and the Alappuzha-Kannur express up to Mangaluru.
