Mangalore, Dec 10: The administration should ensure that an environment is created in the society where each citizen can live with honour, relief and happiness, said chairman of Law Commission, Karnataka and former chairman of Karnataka State Human Rights Commission Nadoja Dr Justice S R Nayak.

Delivering the inaugural address in a programme marking the celebration of the UN Human Rights Day 2014 at the deputy commissioner's office here on Wednesday, he said that it was essential in the country to ensure decent and dignified life to all by extending the benefits of socio-economic stability, safety and security to all human beings. This can be achieved only by a good governance and the administration is bound by law to provide this, he advocated.

Human rights should be honoured and practised by all human beings. These rights are even ensured in the Constitution of India, he urged, adding that the coastal region of Mangaluru should remain as one of the top productive regions in the state.

œThe coastal belt has several communities who are living together in harmony in a multi-cultural society. This should be preserved intact and any elements attempting to bring a black mark to the harmony or humanity should be overturned, he said.

In his presidential address, DK Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that every government missionary was a harbinger of human rights and it is the duty of the government as well as each individual to uphold human values and rights in the society. If every government official takes it upon himself to upholds these rights, it is possible to see the realization of a social welfare state which is equal to all, he said.

Mangaluru City Police Commissioner R Hithendra and president of Dakshina Kannada Bar Association S P Chengappa also spoke on the occasion.

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police S D Sharanappa and Zilla Panchayat CEO Tulasi Maddineni and several others were present on the occasion.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
