Mangaluru, Oct 8: The Mangaluru Rural Police Station that covers 54.3 square kilometres including 17 localities will be split into two within two weeks in order to lessen its burn and discharge.

M Chandra Sekhar, commissioner of Mangaluru city police, said that Mangaluru Urban Police Station will come into existence within the jurisdictional of the Rural Police Station.
The bifurcation will not only lessen burden on the existing station, but also help the police in enforcement of law and order, he told Coataldigest.com.
Mr Chandra Sekhar said that the Rural Station will operate from the same area where it is presently situated near Kaikamba. The newly created Urban Police station will function from a rented building near Sri Brahma Baiderkala Garodi Temple in Naguri until constructing a new building.
"It was a long pending demand. Since a large areas and population was coming under the limits of rural police station, there was a pressure,'' he said, promising a better policing in the days to come.
Jurisdiction
Mangaluru Urban Police Station: Padavu, Alape, Maroli , Kankanady, Jeppinamogaru, Bajal, Kannur and Adamkudru.
Mangaluru Rural Police Station: Pacchandady, Kudupu, Tiruvailu, Ulaibettu, Mallur, Bodanthila, Neermarga, Adyar and Arkula.
