Mangaluru, Feb 17: The eleventh ‘shramadan’ of 5th phase of Ramakrishna Mission Swachhata Abhiyan was carried out in the Service Bus Stand near State Bank bus terminus and surrounding areas from 7.30 am to 11.30 am on 17th February. The cleanliness drive was jointly flagged off at 7.30 am by Dinesh Holla, Environmentalist & MCC Health inspector Bharath Kumar.

Speaking on the occasion, Dinesh Holla said, “For the past few years Swachhata Abhiyan guided by the monks of Ramakrishna Mission has brought a positive change in the mind-set of the Manglaoreans. Inspired by this, Sahyadri Sanchaya has initiated Swacchata Abhiyan in Western Ghats too. Clean mind is the first step towards cleaner surroundings. If everyone feels that this environment belongs to him and he has to preserve it, we can see cleanliness everywhere. I am glad and thankful to the efforts of Ramakrishna Mission in sowing such seeds in the minds of people.” Captain Ganesh Karnik, mentor of the Abhiyan welcomed the gathering. Flagging off was preceded by offering silent prayer as a mark of respect to the martyred soldiers in Pulwama. Subhadra Bhat, Saritha Shetty, Vasanthi Nayak, Yashoda Rai, Rajeshwari, Dr Subhashchandra Rai and other volunteers were present.

Bus stand railings and pillars painted: The cleanliness drive taken up on last Sunday could not be finished due to time constraints and hence it was resumed in the same spot today. Hence it was decided to clean and paint the pillars & railings in the bus stand. Two volunteers were allotted for each pillar. Likewise, 40 pillars were cleaned & painted by the volunteers. Vittaldas Prabhu, Kamalaksha Pai, Usha Amrit Kumar & many others joined hands in this.

Bus stand cleaned: Swami Ekagamyanandaji led the group of volunteers in cleaning the bus stand by sweeping with broom. Volunteers picked up the trash littered and cleaned. Heaps of garbage lying were removed and were replaced with flowering plants in pots. Students of Nitte Physiotherapy College & Nivedita Balaga joined hands.

New seats for passengers: Several old seats in the bus stand were broken down and were of no use. Passengers had to negotiate in them or sit on ground while waiting for the buses. Hence volunteers of the Abhiyan decided to provide concrete seats in the bus stand. Last Sunday about 15 seats were fixed. This Sunday 25 more seats were fixed. Ground was drilled and the seats were fixed followed by painting. Dilraj Alva guided the team of volunteers in this work.

Artwork and graffiti on compound walls: Compound walls of Canara College facing M G Road were favourite spots for illegal & cinema posters. Many attempts to remove them had gone in vain. Last year, the walls were cleaned and a portion of them was painted with art works conveying message of cleanliness. Remaining portion of the wall was painted with Several art works & graffiti works related to the art & cultural forms of Tulunadu like Yakshagana, Daivaradhane, Kambala, Koli Anka, Huli Kunita etc. this week. Bengaluru, May 18: JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda, who turned 92 on Saturday, broke his silence on the sexual abuse charges leveled against his grandson and MP Prajwal Revanna. He stated that he has no objection to the action taken against him if found guilty. However, he mentioned that the cases against his son, JD(S) MLA HD Revanna, who is facing charges of sexual harassment and kidnapping of a woman, were 'created'. He refrained from further commenting as the matter is sub judice.

Recently, Gowda announced his decision not to celebrate his birthday and requested well-wishers and party workers to wish him from wherever they are.

"... I don't want to comment on things that are going on in the court regarding Revanna. Prajwal Revanna has gone abroad. Regarding that, Kumaraswamy (Gowda's other son and state JD(S) chief) has, on behalf of our family, said it is the duty of the government to take action in accordance with the law of the land," Gowda said.

Addressing reporters, the former PM said, "There are several people connected to these sexual abuse cases. I don't want to mention anyone's names. Kumaraswamy has stated that those involved in this matter should face action, and the affected women should get justice and compensation."

"There is no objection from us to taking action against Prajwal. But people have come to know the facts about the allegations made against Revanna, how the case has been created. In one case, he has been granted bail, and in another case, the judgment is expected day after tomorrow... I don't want to comment on it," he said, concurring with Kumaraswamy's statement that if found guilty, no one should be spared.

Prajwal (33) is facing charges of multiple instances of sexually abusing women. The scandal has sparked a political storm with the ruling Congress and BJP-JD(S) engaged in a slugfest.

Prajwal reportedly left for Germany on April 27 and is still at large. An Interpol Blue Corner Notice has been issued against him in an effort to bring him back.

He was the BJP-JD(S) alliance's joint candidate from the Hassan Lok Sabha segment, which went to polls on April 26.

Meanwhile, Gowda's 66-year-old son, Revanna, a former Minister, has been granted interim anticipatory bail from a court here in a sexual harassment case in which his son Prajwal is also an accused.

Asked whether there was a conspiracy to defame and politically scuttle his family, Gowda said, "It is true... considering all that has happened, several people are involved. I won't mention names. Kumaraswamy will address what action needs to be taken."

Responding to a query on BJP leader and advocate G Devaraje Gowda's allegations that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is behind the circulation of a pen drive containing explicit videos involving Prajwal Revanna, Gowda said Kumaraswamy will respond to all of this.

"We have seen in the media what Devaraje Gowda has said. Kumaraswamy, as the party's state President, has been actively responding to all this. He will speak. I won't at this point. I had campaigned for the Lok Sabha polls. On June 4, after the Lok Sabha poll results are announced, I will meet with you (media)," he added.

Gowda also appealed to media persons campaigning near his house to end it. "I also appeal to your owners."

Bengaluru, May 6: Arrested JD-S MLA H.D. Revanna, the son of former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, on Sunday said that there is no evidence against him in the sex video scandal kidnapping case and that it was a "conspiracy" against him.

Talking to the media, while being taken for a medical test before being produced in front of a court here, Revanna stated that a kidnapping case had been lodged against him though he does not have 'one black mark' against him in his entire career of 40 years.

"Without evidence, I have been targeted... All allegations against me are false. My arrest has been made out of ill intention," he claimed.

"The case was lodged on April 28, then, they did not have any evidence. Later, the fake evidence was created on May 2 and I was fixed," he alleged.

Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara stated on Sunday that a Blue Corner notice has already been issued against Revanna's son and MP Prajwal Revanna, the prime accused in the sex video scandal, as he is believed to be abroad.

"The Interpol will communicate to all nations and he will be located. Once he is located, the SIT will take a call on how he should be secured and brought back to India," he added.

Revanna was arrested on Saturday on charges of kidnapping one of the victims of the sex video scandal.

Parameshwara further maintained that the arrest of Revanna has saddened JD-S leaders and if action was not taken, the SIT would be blamed too.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge refused to comment on the alleged sex video scandal involving Prajwal Revanna.

About Revanna's arrest, he said that the SIT would initiate action as per the law. "Those indulging in such acts must be taught a lesson and justice should be given to the families of victims. No one can escape the law. No one should use this case politically," he stated.

Mangaluru, May 20: In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a young man ended his life by stepping in front of a speeding train at Kolakadi railway gate near Mulky, following the tragic suicide of his beloved girlfriend. This sorrowful incident unfolded on Sunday casting a pall of grief over their families and the community.

The Victims of Love

The deceased, Kartik Poojary, a 20-year-old mechanic, had returned to his home in Molottu on Saturday after working in Chitradurga. Kartik lived with his mother and grandmother in Molottu, and had recently started working at a relative’s garage.

Kartik’s heart belonged to his collage mate Sharanya, 19, daughter of Harish Kotyan. Their love, blooming in their teenage years, faced the stern disapproval of their parents due to their young age. Although their parents had reluctantly agreed to their union through a legal bond to marry once they reached the appropriate age, fate took a cruel turn.

The Cruel Twist of Fate

In a sudden decision, Sharanya's parents withdrew her from college and sent her away to Moodbidri. Overwhelmed by despair and separation, Sharanya ended her life by hanging herself at home while her family was away on Friday. Her death was a blow too harsh for Kartik to bear.

A Grief Too Heavy to Bear

Kartik, shattered by the news of Sharanya’s death, hurried back to his home in Molottu on Saturday. The following morning, with his mother away in Kerala on urgent business, Kartik's grief culminated in his tragic decision. He walked to the railway tracks at Kolakadi and succumbed to his sorrow under the wheels of a passing train.

The Aftermath

The Mulky police, led by Inspector Vidyadhar, arrived at the scene and registered a case. The community is left mourning the untimely deaths of two young lives intertwined by love and separated by an unkind twist of fate.
