Mangaluru, Sept 18: The Bajpe Police have arrested five persons on the charge of stealing electricity cable kept for railway electrification at Kenjar village and recovered stolen cable worth Rs. 2 lakh along with a van allegedly used to commit the crime.
The police gave the names of the accused as Arif alias Mohammed Arif alias Munna (28), a resident of Kalavaru, Ramlan Ideen alias Kamal (20), a resident of Kinnipadavu, Azharuddin alias Azhar (23), Kalavaru, Abdul Hamid alias Adramonu (24), a resident of Bhatrakere, and Mohammed Hakim alias Akki (21), a resident of Pejavar.
The accused are facing several cases of dacoity and theft in different police stations of Mangaluru city, the police said. The team that arrested the accused comprised Constables Prakash Murthy, Chandramohan, Rajesh, Bharath, Premanand and Lakshman Kamble, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Ponnappa and Janardhan Gowda, Sub-Inspector Shankar Nairy and Inspector S. Parashiva Murthy.
