Udupi, Jan 12: IUT Bangladesh and a team from Poland, AGH Space Systems, did well in the tasks scheduled on the second day of the second edition of the Indian Rover Challenge at MIT grounds here on Friday.

Both were leading in a task each after the completion of two tasks. Warsaw Rover, the second Polish team in the fray, managed to participate with a rover assembled overnight at the MIT workshop. The rover they had brought with them was not cleared by customs at Bengaluru.

However, the hastily-assembled robot did not function as required. In the tasks on Friday, the teams had to fix a panel in the first task. Without sighting the rover, the teams had to make the rover press buttons on the panel and move the joystick attached to it. This was called the equipment servicing task.

Teams from VIT, IIT Madras, NIT Surat, IUT Bangladesh and AGH Space Systems performed well. AGH Space Systems scored the highest in this task despite a mechanical failure towards the end of the 25 minutes allotted.

In the second task, the rover was to detect an object on its own. Most teams used LIDAR (distance measured by laser light) for this. The traversal of the rover was autonomous and the teams were not allowed to interfere. Only a few teams managed this task. Team IUT from Bangladesh obtained the highest score.
