Moodbidri, Jul 13: A middle aged man was thrashed by the public and handed over to the local police at Moodbidri in Dakshina Kananda district for allegedly harassing several women by calling up and sending lewd messages.
The accused has been identified as Mohsin (42), a married man. It is learnt that he has been trying to flirt with unknown girls and married women by contacting them over mobile phone.
Meanwhile, a woman who had parked her scooter in front of a post office here, found a sticker pasted on her two-wheeler. The sticker contained an unknown mobile number and also a message: “contact this number”
The woman immediately approached the police and handed over the sticker to them. Police realized that they had earlier received complaints from other woman of getting lewd calls from the same number.
Laying trap, police requested the woman to call the miscreant and invite him to Swarajya Maidan. On Saturday, the woman followed the same advice and invited the man to Swarajya Maidan, where public was waiting to teach him a lesson.
The public did not miss a chance to thrash him before handing him over to the police, who later arrested him. It is learnt that the man used to secretly collect the mobile numbers of girls and women when they disclosing their numbers in mobile shops for recharge.
