Police sources said that Abdul Azeez, who represents Kudroli ward in the civic body, was arrested on charges of obstructing the MCC town planning officers from performing their duties.

It is learnt that on June 10 town planning officers from MCC visited Bunder Port to survey an under construction ice plant. On the occasion a group of people led by Abdul Azeez obstructed the officers from carrying out their work. It is alleged that the ice plant is being constructed illegally.

Town Planning Officer Balakrishna Gowda and Assistant Town Planning Officer Shivaraj immediately brought the incident to the notice of MCC commissioner, who reached the spot and convinced Abdul Azeez to solve the matter through discussion.

A meeting was held in this regard at the MCC on the same evening. On the occasion the corporator submitted a memorandum against ATPO to the Commissioner.

However, when the corporator continued his agitation, the Commissioner filed complaints against him with Pandeshwar and Barke Police Stations in the city.

Acting on the complaint, Pandeshwar police arrested Abdul Azeez on Saturday. He is expected to be produced before the magistrate after medical check-up.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
