Mangalore, Jul 1: Mangalore City Corporation on has resolved to construct a state of art bust stand on the 7.23-acre land in front of the Karnataka Bank headquarters at Pumpwell.

The corporation acquired this land in 2008 and reserved Rs. 3 crore for the construction of the bus-stand from the Chief Minister 's special grant. Mayor Mahabala Marla, who presided over the meeting, directed the officials concerned to prepare the blueprint of the bus-stand at the earliest.

According to a note circulated at the meeting, the 7.23-acre land had a length of 306 metres and width of 60 metres. The land is at a lower level than the National Highway 66, necessitating a service road parallel to the highway for access to the bus-stand.

The council agreed to construct a market building at Kankanady at an estimated cost of Rs. 3 crore by demolishing the existing building which was in a dilapidated condition.

The Mayor said the corporation had reserved the fund for the market building from the Chief Minister 's special grant.

The council agreed with the decision of Mayor of seeking Rs. 6.69 crore from the State government for constructing a railway underpass at Mahakalipadpu railway level-crossing.

It agreed to pay an advance of Rs. 13.99 lakh to the Southern Railway as centage charge ' from the general fund of the corporation for 2014-15. More than 40 trains pass through this level crossing daily, forcing the commuters between NH 66 and the city to wait for a longer period.

The council referred to the Standing Committee on Town Planning and Improvement, the matter of shifting the mangala kalasha ' from the Mahaveera Circle at Pumpwell to the nearby 0.47 acre government land for taking an appropriate decision. The kalasha ' has to be shifted for enabling the National Highways Authority of India to build a flyover there. The government land is near the police chowki. Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, was present.
