Medical negligence death of PU student: Yuva Sene warns of agitation

Udupi, Oct 18: Protesting against the alleged medical negligence by doctors in the death of 18-year-old Karthik Shetty at a private hospital in Deralakatte, Mangalore, members of Udupi district Vidyarthi Yuva Sene have warned of intense protests if justice was not meted in the case.

Karthik was a student of Hebri Government Pre-University College, and had gotten himself admitted to Yenepoya Medical College Hospital for dental surgery as suggested by Dr Subramanya Shetty from Petri village in Udupi taluk.

The surgery was reportedly performed on October 4 by dental surgeons Dr Musthafa and Dr Shehazan.

In a complaint filed by the boy's uncle at Ullal police station, medical negligence has been stated as the reason for the boy's death on October 7. The complainant further alleged that the parents of the boy were not informed of his death and no postmortem was conducted.

Members of the Sene demanded stern action against the guilty and justice to the boy's family. A case has been registered against Dr Subramanya Shetty, Dr Mustafa and Dr Shehazan. Vidyarthi Yuva Sene is the student wing of Hindu Yuva Sene.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
