Mangaluru, Mar 14: The medical report of the three-and-half-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by a school van driver, near Thokkottu, on the outskirts of the city, has confirmed the sexual abuse charges, police sources said.
The nursery student of Mangalore One School, owned by a former police officer, had revealed that she was sexually assaulted by Madhukar Shetty (40), the driver of van in which she was dropped home from the school on Friday.
The girl had been admitted to Lady Goschen Govt Hospital for medical examination after her parents lodged a rape case against Shetty at Ullal Police Station.
S Murugan, City Police Commissioner, Mangaluru, on Saturday told Coastaldigest.com that he had received the primary medical report from the hospital confirming that the minor girl had been sexually abused. Another senior police officer told on condition of anonymity that injury marks were found on the body of the girl.
Rape accused Madhukar Shetty, who was arrested on Friday, has been booked under rape charges and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), police sources said.
The girl had discomfort while passing urine in the house in the evening. Her mother noticed that she was bleeding. After the girl narrated the incident to her parents, they lodged a complaint with Ullal police station.
A relative of the girl told Coastaldigest.com that the school van driver had dropped all other school children before forcing himself on the helpless nursery student.
Meanwhile, security measures have been stepped up in Ullal, Thukkottu and surrounding areas which had witnessed violent protest by angry residents on Friday evening.
Mangaluru One School, which had initially rubbished the rape charge, remained closed on Saturday. Additional police personnel were deployed by the City Police Commissionerate near the school to ensure crowd control and to keep the peace.
