Mangaluru, Mar 14: The medical report of the three-and-half-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by a school van driver, near Thokkottu, on the outskirts of the city, has confirmed the sexual abuse charges, police sources said.

The nursery student of Mangalore One School, owned by a former police officer, had revealed that she was sexually assaulted by Madhukar Shetty (40), the driver of van in which she was dropped home from the school on Friday.

The girl had been admitted to Lady Goschen Govt Hospital for medical examination after her parents lodged a rape case against Shetty at Ullal Police Station.

S Murugan, City Police Commissioner, Mangaluru, on Saturday told Coastaldigest.com that he had received the primary medical report from the hospital confirming that the minor girl had been sexually abused. Another senior police officer told on condition of anonymity that injury marks were found on the body of the girl.

Rape accused Madhukar Shetty, who was arrested on Friday, has been booked under rape charges and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), police sources said.

The girl had discomfort while passing urine in the house in the evening. Her mother noticed that she was bleeding. After the girl narrated the incident to her parents, they lodged a complaint with Ullal police station.

A relative of the girl told Coastaldigest.com that the school van driver had dropped all other school children before forcing himself on the helpless nursery student.

Meanwhile, security measures have been stepped up in Ullal, Thukkottu and surrounding areas which had witnessed violent protest by angry residents on Friday evening.

Mangaluru One School, which had initially rubbished the rape charge, remained closed on Saturday. Additional police personnel were deployed by the City Police Commissionerate near the school to ensure crowd control and to keep the peace.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
