Mangaluru, Feb 19: A youth was brutally assaulted by a group of miscreants at Moodushedde Shivanagar near Vamanjoor in Mangaluru taluk on Wednesday in connection a clash erupted between two groups of youngsters in Vamanjoor previous day.
In connection with the clash and assault, the police have registered a case against 30 accused. After Tuesday’s clash police had arrested city bus driver Manikantha and one Saifuddin, both residents of Moodushedde. On Wednesday, the police arrested another six accused in connection with the assault. Four of the six arrested have been named as Sampath, Chetan, Santhosh and Rakesh, residents of Shivanagar limits.
The one who was assaulted by the miscreants has been identified as Imran, who is also a resident of Shivanagar.
It is said that driver Manikantha who was driving a city bus and Saifuddin who was riding a two-wheeler got into a duel with each other over one overtaking the other near Vamanjoor junction at around 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Thereafter, Saifuddin is said to have followed the city bus, waylaid the driver and threatened the driver with abusive words.
The police informed that Saifuddin and few others had pelted stones at the same bus at 9.30 p.m. the same day. This is said to have snowballed into a communal clash among two groups belonging to different communities.
Subsequently, the group led by Manikantha assaulted Imran among the youth belonging to Saifuddin's group.
A case has been registered in Kavoor police station and security has been tightened in the area to prevent further untoward incidents.
