Mangaluru, Jul 21: Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Minorities Welfare, Haj and Wakf B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan today symbolically flagged off the Haj pilgrimage from this coastal city.
Speaking at the symbolic inaugural programme held at Ansar School at Bajpe, near MIA the minister urged the pilgrims to pray for the welfare of their community and the country.
P M Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal, Khazi of Udupi offered dua and gave advices and guidance to the pilgrims.
The pilgrims from Mangaluru zone who are undertaking Haj under government quota this time will fly from the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) in different batches till July 23 today onwards.
Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Udupi districts of Karnataka will come under this zone. The old terminal building of MIA would be utilised for departure of Haj pilgrims.
Urban Development and Housing Minister U T Khader, Mangaluru Haj management committee president Y Muhammad Kunhi, MLC B M Farookh, DK Wakf Advisory Committee president Kanachur Monu and Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry president S M Rashid Haji were present among others.
The time duration of flight from the embarkation point in Mangaluru to Jeddah is 5 hrs 21 minutes. The time duration of flight from the embarkation point in Mangaluru to Madinah is 5 hrs 22 minutes. The airport will handle flights brining pilgrims back to Mangaluru from September 1 to 3.
