Mangaluru, Nov 28: Pointing that most cases in connection with provocative speeches in the state in the past three years were registered in Dakshina Kannada, MLC Ivan D'Souza urged for a dialogue among religious communities and political parties in the presence of local elected representatives, religious leaders and representatives of social organisations in the district.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said the Dakshina Kannada district administration, district in-charge minister, local MLAs and other representatives should facilitate a comprehensive dialogue between prominent religious leaders and organisations in the district, together with peace committee meetings in all police station limits.

Cutting across political and religious barriers, all stake holders should participate in the inter-dialogue, to find a permanent solution to prevent communal clashes and rioting in the district. An efficient law and order system should be brought in the district, to prevent further instances of provocative speeches and immoral rowdyism from occurring in the society, he said.

He urged for a permanent special squad in the district to counter immoral rowdyism and clashes responsible for creating tension in the district. Strict action should be taken against persons making provocative and inflammatory speeches. Immediate action should be taken against instances of immoral policing, he said, pointing that the provocative speeches sowed seeds of hatred in the society which gave rise to clashes, rioting and murders.

He also urged for the recruitment of additional police personnel for Dakshina Kannada police department.

He said that he had raised the issue of strengthening of police force in the district during the legislative council session, along with launch of city tours in Mangaluru towards promoting tourism in Dakshina Kannada.

He also informed that he had raised the issue of Yettinahole project while the BJP members in the legislative council had not opposed the project.
