Mangaluru, Jul 25: Ahead of the conclusion of 129th session of Karnataka Legislative Council in Bengaluru, MLC Ivan D’Souza said that several issues pertaining to Dakshina Kannada had been raised during the session including the long-pending demand for a railway under-bridge (RUB) near Adyar-Kemmanjur in Mangaluru North assembly constituency.

Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, he said that the inordinate amount of delay in constructing an under-bridge at the railway crossing in Adyar-Kemmanjur had led to several accidents at the spot.

Questioning this delay, the issue was raised during the monsoon session of the legislative council, for which a response was garnered from R Roshan Baig, who is the minister for infrastructure development, information and Haj.

Mr Baig replied that the railway department had intimated that the cost would reach up to Rs 92.37 lakh for the construction of a railway under-bridge at the said location. The state government has given the in-principle approval for the construction project, and has been awaiting a budget estimate report from the railway department. Mr Baig informed that once this was received, further course of action will be taken by the state government, he said.

He urged the railway department to hand over the budget estimate for the proposed RUB project to the state government without further delay. Prior to the conference, Mr D’Souza handed over cheques with amounts from the Chief Minister Relief Fund to beneficiaries.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
