Mother of two files complaint against husband for assaulting and seeking divorce

Kundapur, Jun 21: A 39-year-old woman belonging to Muslim community has lodged a complaint at Kundapur police station stating that her husband had allegedly assaulted and harassed her seeking a divorce for the last six months.

In her complaint Safiya, wife of Syed Mohammed, said that she had got married to Syed Mohammed, a resident of Kodi, 10 years ago. They had two daughters.

But for the last six months, her husband was telling her that he would marry another woman. He was allegedly torturing her both physically and mentally. She said that she had borne the torture for the sake of her children.

But at 2 p.m. on June 15, Syeed Mohammed allegedly hit her with an iron rod, showed her a knife and told her to divorce him.

He allegedly even threatened to kill her and their two daughters and throw their bodies into the sea if she did not divorce him. He allegedly threw the knife at her, but she escaped and then he fled from the spot, Safiya said in her complaint.

Safiya was admitted to the Government Hospital in Kundapur due to the wounds suffered by her to her arms, shoulders and head during the assault. A case was registered under Sections 307 and 498(A) of Indian Penal Code on Wednesday based on her complaint.

The Kundapur police said that Syed Mohammed was absconding and efforts are on to trace him.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
