Mangaluru, Dec 18: Coastaldigest.com XI stunned Surathkal Strikers to win a thrilling match on the Day 1 of Mangalore Premiere League under floodlights at Dr B R Ambedkar Stadium, Panambur on Sunday night.

The men in blue looked dead and buried when top order batsmen of Surthkal Strikers began to punish the opponent bowlers after they posted a not-so-difficult 154 for eight in 20 overs.

Fast bowler Arif Mukka, known as Mukka express, gave a lesson in how to take a grip on T20 match that was completely in the control of opponents. In fact Arif had given a clear hint that he would prove deadly by claiming opener Zaheer's wicket when the team's score was zero.

However, Ashish D (54 off 41 balls) and Zeeshan Ali (47 off 32 balls) changed the course of the game and showed the signs of giving coastaldigest.com XI a bloody nose.

After Aditya Somanna claimed the above two wickets, Arif stole the show and dismissed the middle and lower order batsmen of Surthkal Strikers one after the other. Arif swallowed almost half of the Surtahkal Strikers team (5/12) to bag the man of the match title.

It was Ritesh Bhatkal, the captain of coastaldigest.com XI who won the toss and opted for batting. The team was in trouble when star batsman Mohammed Taha (10 off 14) lost his wicket.

However, another opener Rishab GM slammed a much-needed half century (53 off 50 balls) and saved the team from disaster. Thanks to a couple of sixes by lower order batsmen the team's score crossed 150.

Coastaldigest.com XI notched up a 13-run win as Surthkal Strikers were bowled out for 141. Ironically, the result was repetition of history as the Coastaldigest.com XI had defeated Surathkal Strikers in the opening match of MPL 2015 on the same ground.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
