Mangaluru, Feb 15: The Mangalore University has indefinitely postponed the inauguration of the Beary Study Chair in the wake of the demise of Abdul Raheem Teekay, who was one of the pioneers of Beary literary and cultural movement.
The inaugural function was earlier scheduled for February 16. Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister U T Khader was supposed to inaugurate the Study Chair at Mangala Gangothri. Late Raheem Teekay was also among the invited guests.
A release from the registrar of the Mangalore University issued here today said the new date will be announced soon.
The Beary Study Chair will be tasked to research the Beary community’s history and document the same. The decision to set up the Chair was announced by then Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the 2017-18 budget, who had set apart Rs. 41.12 lakh grant for the same.
