Mumbai, Apr 12: Mumbai city BJP spokesperson Yogesh Verma and his supporters assaulted a grieving family on the Western Express Highway evening when the family objected to Verma's SUV forcefully overtaking their car, driving them against the highway's side railing. When the family went to a nearby hospital to obtain a medical report so that they could file a police complaint against the BJP workers, the latter beat them up there as well.

The police have arrested Verma's driver Sanjay Singh, his friend Amit Agrawal and three associates. They have also arrested Vrushank Shah (23), who was driving his family's car; he was remanded in police custody, but sent back to hospital for treatment. Verma, who is in hospital, has been booked and will be arrested after his discharge.

Malad residents Dr Bharat and Bina Shah, along with their children Kanchi (27) and Vrushank, were driving towards Vile Parle to attend a ceremony for Bina's recently deceased mother. "At Jogeshwari flyover, after Verma's Scorpio overtook the Maruti, his driver Singh abused the Shahs, to which the family reacted," said additional commissioner of police (west region) Milind Bharambe.

The police said both vehicles crossed the flyover and stopped; Vrushank and Verma's driver got out of the vehicles and started arguing; Singh slapped Vrushank, and was joined in by Verma and his friend Agrawal; Kanchi started to record the matter on her cellphone, when one of the BJP men hit her on the hand and tore a piece off from her dress; they also misbehaved with her mother; Kanchi scratched Verma's face with her nails.

The police took the Shahs to the Jogeshwari police station to record their complaint. Verma went to the nearby BMC-run Bal Thackeray Trauma Care Hospital and got himself admitted. His associates called two dozen BJP workers to the hospital.

After recording what the Shahs had to say to register a case of molestation and assault, the police sent them to the trauma hospital for medical examination, along with two constables, including a woman. When the Shahs reached the hospital, the BJP workers attacked them. One of them threw a stone, which hit Vrushank on the forehead. The BJP workers also assaulted the constables when they tried to intervene. The police had to call for reinforcements to control the situation. One BJP worker also slapped an officer.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
