Kannur, Jan 21: Four suspects have been arrested by the police for alleged involvement in the killing of ABVP activist Shyam Prasad in Kannur district of Kerala. Police say, all arrested are activists of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the political arm of the Popular Front of India.

Prasad, an ABVP activist studying at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Peravoor, was riding a motorcycle on Friday when he was waylaid by some youths in a car. Though he tried to take shelter in a house nearby, the gang followed him and hacked him to death.

According to Police, Prasad’s murder was an act of retaliation following an attack on an SDPI worker allegedly by RSS workers in the area last week. A school bus driver, the SDPI activist is recuperating in a hospital. Besides, a woman had reportedly complaint against Shyam Prasad for troubling her.

Police say the four SDPI workers —Salim Hamza, Ameer Abdul Rahman, Muhammad Basheer and Shaheem Shamsudeen— have confessed to committing the murder. Basheer is also an accused in the murder of CPM worker Naroth Dileepan. Police have been able to retrieve the weapons used in the murder. The accused were arrested from Thalappuzha in neighbouring Wayanad district based on the inputs of the eye-witnesses.

On Saturday, Prasad’s body was cremated in the presence of senior BJP and RSS leaders in Koothuparambu. A dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the BJP in the district was largely peaceful with heavy police presence.

BJP demands ban on SDPI

In the wake of the arrest of four suspected SDPI members on murder charges, BJP Kerala State president Kummanam has demanded a ban on organisations like the SDPI and PFI.

Talking to reporters in Kochi on Saturday, Mr. Rajasekharan said probe into the murder should also unearth the circumstances and the conspiracy that led to it.

He accused the CPI(M) of taking a soft stance towards ‘terror outfits’ such as the SDPI and the PFI in Kannur - a CPI(M) stronghold. Mr. Rajasekharan alleged that the murder of the RSS man was evidence to the fact that there existed a Jehadi-Left nexus in that part of the State.

“They are SDPI workers during the day, but are sheltered by the CPI(M) in their hideouts at night,” he alleged.

Kerala had become the nerve centre of terror, with the State government failing to curb such activities, he maintained, asking the State government to outlaw the SDPI and the PFI failing which the demand would be taken up with the Union government.

Karnataka: BJP leader and advocate G Devaraje Gowda was arrested in connection with a sex abuse video allegedly belonging to Hassan JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna.

According to police, Devaraje Gowda was arrested at Gulihal tollgate by the Hiriyur police in this district on Friday night for leaking the video in a pen drive.

He was arrested on a tip-off received by the Hassan police, which wanted his presence for the case.

Several explicit videos involving Prajwal started making the rounds ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, which took place on April 26.

The MP, a grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, is absconding and a 'blue corner' notice has been issued against him by Interpol.

Three FIRs, including charges of rape, molestation, intimidation, blackmailing and threatening, have been registered against Prajwal.

Devaraje Gowda is accused of leaking these videos, which he has categorically rejected.

He contested in the 2023 Assembly elections against JD(S) MLA from Holenarasipura H D Revanna.

H D Revanna, father of Prajwal, is at present in jail on charges of kidnapping a woman, a mother of three.

Ahead of polls, Devaraje Gowda had warned BJP’s central leadership against backing Prajwal Revanna and brought his sex scandal to light.

Bengaluru, May 6: Arrested JD-S MLA H.D. Revanna, the son of former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, on Sunday said that there is no evidence against him in the sex video scandal kidnapping case and that it was a "conspiracy" against him.

Talking to the media, while being taken for a medical test before being produced in front of a court here, Revanna stated that a kidnapping case had been lodged against him though he does not have 'one black mark' against him in his entire career of 40 years.

"Without evidence, I have been targeted... All allegations against me are false. My arrest has been made out of ill intention," he claimed.

"The case was lodged on April 28, then, they did not have any evidence. Later, the fake evidence was created on May 2 and I was fixed," he alleged.

Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara stated on Sunday that a Blue Corner notice has already been issued against Revanna's son and MP Prajwal Revanna, the prime accused in the sex video scandal, as he is believed to be abroad.

"The Interpol will communicate to all nations and he will be located. Once he is located, the SIT will take a call on how he should be secured and brought back to India," he added.

Revanna was arrested on Saturday on charges of kidnapping one of the victims of the sex video scandal.

Parameshwara further maintained that the arrest of Revanna has saddened JD-S leaders and if action was not taken, the SIT would be blamed too.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge refused to comment on the alleged sex video scandal involving Prajwal Revanna.

About Revanna's arrest, he said that the SIT would initiate action as per the law. "Those indulging in such acts must be taught a lesson and justice should be given to the families of victims. No one can escape the law. No one should use this case politically," he stated.
