Naresh who was arrested at Hejamady near Udupi on June 26 was initially sent to police custody up to June 30 and the court on request from investigating officer K Tilakchandra, assistant commissioner of police, Mangaluru central sub-division extended it by 48-hours up to July 2.

Senior police officer monitoring the murder case investigations said there is fair progress into ongoing investigation. "We need to probe in some depth the planning (that went) into the (March 21) incident," noted Sanjeev M Patil, deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic). "We may move the court again for his custody if more fresh evidence comes up during the course of investigations," he said adding a supplementary chargesheet will be filed in due course.

Sanjeev Patil said the city police will staunchly oppose any move on part of Naresh to obtain bail at this stage when he is in judicial custody. "We will convey to the court that any such move is not conducive to the ongoing investigations," he said.

In a related development, the court based on a representation from Ramachandra Baliga refused to accept a request from Naresh Shenoy that he needed to be hospitalized for chronic obstructive renal disease that he suffers from. Asha Nayak, advocate for applicant said the district government Wenlock Hospital has the best of nephrologists and urologists and facilities to treat person for such a disease.
