Mangaluru, May 28: Holding “goons” of Muslim community responsible for the recent violence at Kalladka in Bantwal taluk, RSS veteran Prabhakar Bhat accused the police of implicating “innocent” Hindu youths in false communal cases.

Addressing media persons in the city on Sunday, Mr Bhat, who is infamous for communally provocative speeches, advised the politicians, media and people not to give communal tinge to the Friday’s incident wherein a Muslim youth was stabbed by three alleged saffron activists.

The victim, Mohammad Hashir, son of Yusuf, a resident of Kalladka, has identified the assailants as Mithun, Amit and Yathin, all said to be saffron activist. Many local residents also had witnessed the attack which took place on the road in broad daylight.

However, bringing in a new angle, Mr Bhat said that a few Muslim youths had waylaid Yathin’s vehicle and abused him when he was on his way to Puttur on Friday which led to clash between two groups belonging to different communities.

“The local police know this ‘truth’. However, they have registered false cases against Mithun and his two friends based on the complaint of Hashir,” he said adding that innocent youths of Hindu community are being targeted by the police under the Congress rule in Karnataka.

Dubbing Saturday’s Kalladka bandh against violence as ‘forced shut down’, Mr Bhat said that police have failed to maintain law and order in the district.

“People with criminal background imposed bandh in Kalladka. Local residents Jaffer, Jaleel, Nasir are among those who forced people to shut down their shops. However, instead of providing protection to people and taking action against ‘goons’, the police imposed week-long prohibitory orders under Section 144 in entire Bantwal taluk,” he groused.

Communal tinge to attack on doctor

Soon after requesting not to give communal tinge to Kalladka clash, Mr Bhat blamed Muslim community for recent attack on a doctor at Yenepoya hospital by the relatives of a patient who died there. It could be recalled here that medical fraternity had boycotted work and staged massive protest in the in the city earlier this week in protest against the attack.

Mr Bhat also said that ‘Muslim’ goons had recently pelted stones at city police commissioner’s office and also attacked policeman in Ladyhill area. “It is not possible to establish communal harmony in the society if “those” (Muslim) goons continue to indulge in anti-social activities,” he warned.

BJP leader Padmanabha Kottari and Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell were present among others at the press meet.

Puttur: The long-cherished dream of a government medical college in Puttur has moved a decisive step closer to reality, with the Karnataka State Finance Department granting its official approval for the construction of a new 300-bed hospital.

Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai announced the crucial development to reporters on Monday, confirming that the official communication from the finance department was issued on November 27. This 300-bed facility is intended to be the cornerstone for the establishment of the government medical college, a project announced in the state budget.

Fast-Track Implementation

The MLA outlined an aggressive timeline for the project:

•    A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the hospital is expected to be ready within 45 days.

•    The tender process for the construction will be completed within two months.

Following the completion of the tender process, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the project.

"Setting up a medical college in Puttur is a historical decision by the Congress government in Karnataka," Rai stated. The project has an estimated budget allocation of Rs 1,000 crore for the medical college.

Focus on Medical Education Department

The MLA highlighted a key strategic move: requesting the government to implement the hospital construction through the Medical Education Department instead of the Health and Family Welfare Department. This is intended to streamline the entire process of establishing the full medical college, ensuring the facilities—including labs, operation theatres, and other necessary infrastructure—adhere to the strict guidelines set by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The proposed site for the project is in Bannur.

Rai also took the opportunity to address political criticism, stating that the government has fulfilled its promise despite "apprehensions" and "mocking and criticising" from opposition parties who had failed to take similar initiatives when they were in power. "Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has kept his word," he added.
