Mangaluru, Sep 1: Muslims in coastal Karnataka will think twice before employing female candidates belonging to Hindu community in their business establishments if the Sangh Parivar activists failed to refrain from what police call “immoral rowdyism”, warned K Ashraf, President, United Muslim Organisation, Dakshina Kannada.

Speaking to media persons in the city on Tuesday the former Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation, who quit Congress after rebelling against its leaders in Dakshina Kananda, said that thanks to goondaism of by saffron outfits several Muslim merchants have already expressed apprehension over giving jobs to Hindu girls.

Accompanied by a host of activists from Muslim community, Mr Ashraf lamented that the rampant attacks on Muslim youths for mere interacting with Hindu girls in the coastal region has created an atmosphere of disharmony and distrust in the society.

Calling Muslims of coastal Karnataka ‘peace-lovers’, who want co-existence and communal harmony, Mr Ashraf said that Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, RSS and a few other outfits in the region are making all possible attempt to disrupt peace and spread communalism.

Referring to August 24 Mangaluru attack, wherein a group of saffron activists brutally assaulted a Muslim manager of a supermarket after stripping him and tying him to an electric pole in full public view for accompanying a girl belonging to Hindu community, Mr Ashraf said that it was a pre-planned attack carried out by Sangh Parivar members as part of disturbing peace in the society.

He urged the DK district administration and police department to consider the case of fresh attack seriously, carryout a fair and impartial investigation into and give justice to the victim. He also demanded the arrest of Sangh Parivar leaders who were allegedly behind the August 24 attack. “All the accused in the incident should be booked under Goonds Act and should be banned from the district,” he said.

Mr Ashraf pointed out that the female subordinate of the victim, who ultimately filed a harassment complaint against him, had in fact changed her statements several times. “She had been humiliated by the assailants for trying to come to rescue of the victim in the beginning. Later she made a series of allegations against the victim. This clearly shows the involvement of Sangh Parivar leaders in the case,” he said.

Urging the cops to withdraw “false complaint” lodged against the victim, Mr Ashraf said that the victim deserves compensation. Case also should be booked against Sangh Parivar activists Anil and Latha for threatening the victim’s brother in the police station in front of the cops, he demanded.

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

•    Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

•    State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

•    Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
