Udupi, Nov 25: A group of Muslims staged a protest in front of the Clock Tower here condemning the alleged derogatory Facebook post against Vishvesha Tirtha Swami, the chief pontiff of Pejawar Mutt, after he justified the demolition of Babri mosque and demanded the construction of Ram Mandir.

The protesters included the members of Pejawar Swami Blood Donating Team. Addressing the protesters Mohammed Arif, president of the Team, said that they condemned the defamatory and derogatory post on Facebook.

“This post was the handiwork of some miscreants who wanted to divide society. The team has spoken to the seer on this issue,” he said.

Swamiji was helpful. He had helped people of all communities during natural calamities. The Pejawar seer had shown respect to the Muslim community during his Paryaya periods, Mr. Arif said.

He had forgiven even those who had criticised and opposed him. The dharna by the team was a small one and it would hold a big meeting in the coming days, Mr. Arif said.

Mohammed Nabil, vice-president of the team, said that Udupi was an “educated district”, known for harmony among its various communities. This image should not be tarnished. Social media was being misused by some persons for their own ends.

Stern legal action should be taken against those who were behind the post against the Pejawar seer on Facebook. This post is nothing but a ploy to create division among communities, he said.

Mohammed Hanif, secretary of the team, U. Nazeer, Shahid Khan and Salim Khan, were present.

Police sources said that a group of persons had posted a message on Facebook stating that the Babri mosque would be built at Ayodhya, the day the Pejawar seer died.

The post also had derogatory and defamatory remarks against the seer. Based on the complaint, the case was registered under Sections 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code. Investigation is on, the police said.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
