Chikmagalur, Mar 17: “The Third Front will definitely come to power in the nation and my leader, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda will definitely get another opportunity to lead the nation,” said former Union minister and probable JD(S) candidate from Chikmagalur- Udupi Loka Sabha constituency V Dhananjay Kumar.

He was speaking to presspersons after a discussion with district JD(S) leaders here, on Sunday.

The formal declaration has not been done about my joining the JD(S) and my candidature. The second list of the candidates will be declared on Monday or Tuesday. “I will join the party in the presence of H D Deve Gowda. I am not party hopper kind of person, but my party leaders kept me away. I am the one among those who built BJP in State. I had opened BJP account in Dakshina Kannada district and strengthened the party base in the area. But, from 2004, I had not got an opportunity,” he said.

“I have worked four times as MP and once as Union minister and don 't have any black mark of corruption. I have maintained a very clean public life. BJP has kept those who returned from jail. Few selfish people have neglected me for the sake of their political carrier,” he came down heavily against BJP leaders without mentioning a name.

“We thought of building new system in State and built KJP with the same intention. They went back to BJP searching their future there. They have their own way, we have ours. May God bless them,” he said.

“I didn 't demand ticket to join JD(S). But, the party leaders from both districts have supported me and have offered ticket from the constituency. We will face the election together as a challenge. The second list of JD(S) will create some surprise in politics. candidates of good service background will contest from the party. Media may have to conduct the pre-poll surveys once again,” he added.

The former minister claimed that the JD(S) is the only political party which can respond to the problems of common man. “We have confidence that people will support us. Former CM H D Kumaraswamy always stood with Inam land holders of Kalasa. BJP doesn 't have any intention of solving encroachment problem and the solving the problems of coffee planters, arecanut growers and other farmers. The Congress has failed to fulfil its old promises and lost the moral right to seek votes,” he said.

Speaking on pre-poll surveys, he said: “From past few months some media houses are broadcasting exaggerated news, centred on one person or one party. In pre-poll surveys, there is competition to show more seats to NDA or UPA. However, I have heard BJP leaders saying that they would win seven to eight seats in State. The grand pubic rallies of that party have lost their shine. If anyone believes that JD(S) is negligible in State, it means that they are still in illusion. Nobody can rule without the support of regional parties,” he warned BJP and the Congress.

MLA B B Ningaiah, former MLA S L Dharmegowda, JD(S) leaders H H Devaraj, H T Rajendra and others were also present.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.
