Varanasi, Apr 21: Quami Ekta Dal leader and jailed mafia don Mukhtar Ansari's elder brother Afzal Ansari has extended his support to Narendra Modi, saying the Muslims would remain safe under the BJP prime ministerial candidate in the country.
When Ansari withdrew nomination papers BJP and media accused that AAP was taking support from mafia don to defeat Modi. Pro-Modi media even telecasted some of the fake pamphlets of AAP that sought support from the mafia don.

"The country needs Modi. The Muslims would also be safe when he becomes the Prime Minister. This is the reason that the Muslims of Varanasi are toying with the idea to vote for him," the former Samajwadi Party MP told newspersons at the Babatpur airport on Saturday night.

"Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had asked Modi to follow 'Raaj Dharma' which the Gujarat CM followed after the 2002 riots in his state. But SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav couldn't teach ' Raaj Dharma' to his son and Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav. This is why we suffered the country's worst riots in Muzaffarnagar," Afzal claimed.

Mulayam is dangerous for the Muslims because his sole target is to misuse the community, the Quami Ekta Dal leader said. " But the Muslims of eastern UP in general and Varanasi, in particular, will teach the SP a lesson this election," he added.

Afzal claimed that out of 27 Lok Sabha seats on both sides of the Ghaghra river in eastern UP, the BJP would win 24 seats.

"The QED will win two seats and the Congress will get one. The remaining is going to the BJP," Afzal predicted.

Interestingly, Afzal had floated the idea of a common candidate against Modi on the Varanasi seat. He wanted the Congress, the SP and the AAP to support Mukhtar as a consensus candidate against Modi. But his idea was rejected.

Later, Mukhtar withdrew candidature from Varanasi and the party indicated its support to Arvind Kejriwal.

Fearing that the voters would be annoyed if he accepted the support of Ansari brothers, Kejriwal had last week announced that he did not require the support of such controversial leaders.

And Modi will free country of criminals!

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
