Mangaluru, Nov 12: The birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, which falls on November 11, was observed as the national education day at a programme organised by Talent Research Foundation at Kankanady here on Tuesday.
The occasion was marked by a day-long educational workshop for teachers from the district and various competitions for high school and pre-university college students jointly organised by Talent Research Foundation and Samanvaya Muslim Shikshakara Sangha.
The programme was inaugurated by Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo, who spoke on the occasion.
Mangalore City Corporation Mayor Mahabala Marla, corporators Asha D'Silva, Praveenchandra Alva, District Information officer B A Khader Shah, Muslim Teachers' Association president Mohammed Thumbe, Harekala Hajabba, Zaheed Hussain, Sulaiman Shaikh Beluvai, B A Akbar Ali, president of the foundation Riyaz Kannur and others were present.
The programme was presided by TRF founder-president Abdul Rauf Puthige.
A total of 168 high school and PU college students took part in various competitions such as English and Kannada elocution, essay writing, painting and memory. Prizes were handed over to 36 winners of the competitions.
Resource person Sharmila Sanil participated in the educational workshop for teachers. Close to 50 teachers from the district took part in the workshop.
In the valedictory programme, Dakshina Kannada district officer for minorities Sabir Ahmed Mulla, Women and Child Welfare district development officer Usmanand businessman Shameem Vishwas Crown were present.
