New dist-in-charge ministers appointed; Rai continues in DK, Pramod for Udupi

Bengaluru, Jun 23: After reshuffling his ministry on Sunday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday appointed district in-charge ministers.

Energy Minister D?K?Shivakumar has been made incharge of the two Vokkaliga-dmoninant districts of Mandya and Ramanagaram.

Siddaramaiah may appoint a new district incharge minister for Mandya or Ramanagaram once he fills the vacant cabinet berth in the ministry, which is expected to go for a Vokkaliga legislator.

Following is the list of ministers and districts of which they will be incharge: Kagodu Thimmappa (Shivamogga), K?R Ramesh Kumar (Kolar), Ramalinga Reddy (Chikkaballapur), T?B?Jayachandra (Tumakuru) G Parameshwara (Chikkamagalur), H?K?Patil (Gadag) Mahadev Prasad (Chamarajanagar), H?C?Mahadevappa (Mysuru) K?J George (Bengaluru Urban), Krishna Byre Gowda (Bengaluru Rural), M?B Patil (Vijayapura), H Anjaneya (Chitradurga), Sharan Prakash Patil (Kalaburagi), Tanvir Sait (Raichur), Ramesh Jarakiholi (Belagavi), Rudrappa Lamani (Haveri), Santosh Lad (Ballari), Eshwar Khandre (Bidar), Ramanath Rai (Dakshina Kannada), Pramodh Madhwaraj (Udupi), S?S?Mallikarjun (Davangere), Priyank Kharge (Yadigir), M?R?Seetharam (Kodagu), Basavaraj Rayareddy (Koppal) H Y Meti (Bagalkot), Vinay Kulkarni (Dharwad), A?Manju (Hassan) and R?V?Deshpande (Uttara Kannada).

Ministers' role

District-in-charge ministers have to chair review meetings of departments in their respective districts.

Review meetings are normally held once in three months.

Implementing and overseeing the progress of various government schemes and programmes are also the responsibility of the district incharge ministers.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
