Mangalore, Jun 22: District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai has asked officials of the housing board and public works department to form a committee to finalise a location in Mangalore City Corporation limits to construct a new complex that would become the hub of district administrative activity, and submit a report within a week.
In a review meeting of developmental works held here on Saturday, a proposal was placed before Ramanath Rai and health minister U T Khader for a new multi-storeyed district administrative complex on nine acres of land located in Urwa Store next to the Zilla Panchayat where 219 government quarters were located.
The housing board officials said that the district administration complex, office of the deputy commissioner, a cultural hall and an Ambedkar Bhavan could be built on the land in Urwa Store area, by demolishing the government quarters and relocating the occupants to apartments. Hence, the three complexes could be accommodated in the single site of nine acres in Urwa, said the officials.
Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that the committee formed to identify a suitable plot of land for the purpose would finalise the proposal before June 30. A report would be submitted after finalising the proposal, he said.
He also suggested that a plot of land identified in Padil was also ideal for the construction of the district administrative complex.
The committee will include the MCC mayor, Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) commissioner and the concerned MLAs.
The land identified earlier by the district administration for the purpose in Bangra Kuloor was eliminated in the meeting since it was unsuitable for the purpose.
