Mangalore, September 10: Mangalore City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh paid a surprise visit to the Eidgah Masjid on Light House Hill on Friday after the Eid Namaz and exchanged greetings with Mangalore Qazi Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar.
He was welcomed at the masjid premises by the chairman of Zeenath Baksh Jumma Masjid Committee Haji Y Abdulla Kunhi, Muslim Central Committee president Haji KSM Masood and other leaders of the community. This was commissioner's first visit to the Masjid after he took over as the commissioner of the City a few months ago.
Later he also visited some other Muslim-dominated areas including Bunder and Kudroli and exchanged festival greetings with Muslims.
Earlier in his speech at the Masjid, the Qazi stressed the importance of communal harmony and urged Muslims to live in peace and understanding with the fellow-countrymen. “When Malikuddinar visited Mangalore he was given a rousing reception by the Hindu rulers of this land. We should be aware of this heritage and continue this good tradion,” he said.
In his message to the community, Mr Abdullah Kunhi stressed the need for living in harmony and peace. “We should give respect to fellow-beings and command respect. We should learn to respect the laws of the land. A good Muslim can be a good citizen of the country,” he said.
