Police failed to register FIR against those who attacked a Dalit'

Mangalore, September 4: M Koosappa, a Dalit leader alleged that police at Uppinangady have failed to register FIR against those who brutally attacked a Dalit man named Mudara during “Mosaru Kudike” celebration on August 21.

He was speaking at the SC/ST monthly grievance meeting convened by Dakshina Kannada District police at the mini-meeting hall of the office of the Superintendent of Police here on September 4.

He said though the victim complained against the accused with Circle Inspector and Assistant Superintendent of Police, no action has been initiated against them.

He also complained that a cultural organization called 'Snehithara Kalasangha' has encroached the path of Dalit colony constructing a 'Bhajana Mandir' at Addabail in Kenya village under Subrahmanya Police station limits and has been conducting 'Astami' programme since two years.

He said when the Dalits complained about this to police station, they told to sort out the issue with the civil court.

M A Nayak, President of Adidravida Samaja Seva Sangha alleged Bantwal rural police of registering a false complaint with Thahasildar against Dharmanna Nayak saying he had encroached other's land.

He said though the case was solved with the peace meetings with the both parties, Sub Inspector registered case against Dharmanna Nayak.

He also alleged that Police did not respond positively when a member of SC/ST community named Ramesh was brutally attacked by some people belonging to 'other caste'.

Balakrishna of Chelur in Bantwal taluk said that a SC/ST colony in his area lacking basic infrastructure such as roads, drainage system, street lights etc though the colony was existed since 1978.

Vishwanath of Bantwal taluk said that this year Social Welfare Department distributed only Rs 200 to the students instead of two sets of uniform causing inconvenience.

He also urged that students belonging to SC/ST community under Town Municipal Council should get the scholarship as the students under City Corporation get.

Protest
Somanath, Former Zilla Panchayat President said, the Dalit organisations are all set for another round of agitation demanding to rewrite the name of Ambedkar Bhavan which was constructed at Uppinangady PU College and allow Dalits to conduct prigrammes.

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru CEN police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly posting provocative and misleading content on an Instagram page named “mr_a_titude”, targeting the Bajpe police.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H identified the arrested as Abhishek M, a resident of Katipalla in Mangaluru.

A case has been registered at the Bajpe Police Station under Sections 353(1)(c), 353(2), 56, and 57 read with Section 189 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the post.

According to police, the accused uploaded a photograph of a hotel on the Instagram page and alleged that accused persons in a murder case under the Bajpe police jurisdiction were being given “royal treatment” by the police, including being served beef meals daily from the hotel.

The post further accused the police of supporting criminals, misusing their authority, and betraying public trust. Police said the content was provocative in nature and aimed at inciting public outrage against the police.

Following the post, a case was registered at the Bajpe police station, and further investigation was transferred to the CEN police station.

Police records indicate that the accused has a criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder, assault, and robbery at the Surathkal Police Station, and one case at the Kaup Police Station.

The Commissioner said the accused was traced and arrested using technical evidence.
