Sullia, April 10: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has said that the BJP high command would take a final decision over the inclusion of Mangalore North MLA Krishna J Palemar to the State cabinet.
He was speaking to media persons after participating in a programme at Sullia on Monday. “The State BJP is abides by high command's decision. The reinstatement of Palemar is also depends on high command's decision”, he said.
Mr Gowda, who is due to visit Singapore and Japan to promote Global Investors' Meet (GIM) said that he would think of cabinet expansion only after returning from the tour.
He said that GIM is his priority right now because it has the potential to usher massive economic growth in the region. Hence, he will focus on campaigning for the GIM during his five-day foreign visit to Japan and Singapore.
With regard to the drought situation in the state, he said that Government has formed three teams comprising of fourteen ministers to visit the drought-hit areas and accordingly the team has visited Chamarajanagar, Bijapur and Gulbarga. The CM said that he has visited many villages in Mysore, Chitradurga and Chikaballapur. He said that relief work in the drought hit areas will be undertaken at the earliest.
Mr Gowda said the Government has written to the High Court Chief Justice and opposition leaders to clarify what is the meaning of consultation process. “Once we receive the reply, necessary action will be taken to appoint a new Lokayukta”, he said.
Meanwhile, the CM announced Rs 4.5 crore to develop a road to Thodikana Shri Mallikarjuna temple, which is about 12 kms away from Sullia.
With regard to the Yellow Leaf Disease that has been threatening the areca growers in the Malnad districts and also Dakshina Kannada district, the CM said that the state government has already prepared a project report and a delegation of ministers and opposition members will meet the Union Secretaries of the Horticulture and Agriculture Departments in the third week of April. He said that a replantation package will be launched to find solution to the problem.
The CM said that the state government has reduced the cess on petrol by 1.25 per cent, which again is for the first time as no government in the state had so far taken such a move.
“We wanted to reduce the cess further. However, due to drought in the state, we could not afford to reduce the cess further,” he added.
He said he is satisfied with his transparent administration in the state. About 95 per cent of the proposals announced in the last budget have been implemented in the state.
Adding that there has been slow progress in work related to drinking water in few districts, he said that the Deputy Commissioners concerned will be held responsible if people suffer from shortage of water supply.
