Mangalore, April 17: Upset over the absence of some senior officials at the monthly meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) review committee here on Monday, president of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat K.T. Shailaja Bhat said that she would inform the Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda if officials do the same next month onwards.

The KDP meeting pertained to reviewing progress of development works in the district. President of the panchayat was the chairperson of the committee. The Chief Executive Officer of the panchayat K.N. When issues pertaining to the Revenue Department and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) were to be discussed, the authorities concerned remained absent. Following this, attendance of the officials present was taken.

The president said that since the Chief Minister hailed from Dakshina Kannada, he was concerned about the progress of works in the district. Chairman of the Standing Committee for Social Justice Janardhana Gouda and Mr. Prakash were not convinced with the replies of executive officers of taluk panchayats over issues such as reserving land for solid waste management projects and drinking water supply.

When Mr. Gouda wanted to know more about the Koraga welfare and solid waste management projects, the Chief Executive Officer said: “I am not able to defend my officers.”

The Chief Executive Officer also said that he felt ashamed that the officials did not come prepared for the meeting.

The Chief Executive Officer said that the panchayat was in consultation with some cooperative societies on adopting 602 children with severe disabilities in the district by providing necessary facilities. The district had 5,054 children with disabilities aged between 6 and 14.

Mr. Prakash said that the Government had allocated Rs. 150.62 crore under the plan expenditure to the panchayat for its annual action plan for 2012-13.
