Tension grips Kasargod as saffron brigade gears up for Togadia meet

Kasargod, May 4: A tense atmosphere has prevailed in nearby Kasargod district as saffron activists have intensified the preparation for Hindu Shakthi Sanghom wherein Vishwa Hindu Parishad international general secretary Praveen Togadia is expected to participate.

However, the district police are still contemplating whether to permit the convention scheduled for May 6 in the communally sensitive town.

Hundreds of Hindutva leaders including Swamijis from Kerala and Karnataka are expected to take part in the meet, Hindu Aikyavedi State vice-president Raveesh Thanthri Kandar told a press conference here on Thursday.

A senior officer said: ''the police have not decided whether to give permission to hold the meeting in view of the presence of Togadia, who is known for delivering fiery and provocative speeches, in the communally sensitive town.”

The meeting is scheduled at the Thalipadappu ground at 3 p.m.

The police said that if the meet was held without their permission, it would be considered as illegal.

''Anyway, we are assessing the situation and will take an appropriate decision later,” Assistant Superintendent of Police T. K. Shibu said.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

• Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

• Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

• Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
