Mangalore, May 12: A two-day job fair — Alva's Pragathi 2012 — got under way in Moodbidri on Saturday. It was inaugurated at Alva's College by Union Minister for Corporate Affairs M. Veerappa Moily. This is the third consecutive year that Alva's Foundation has organised the job fair.

The foundation said more than 14,000 job aspirants had registered for the mela, including about 2,000 registrations on the spot on Saturday. As many as 137 companies were scouting for candidates.

Mr. Moily, who commended the Foundation for organising the event without any commercial interest behind it, said students should make use of this opportunity. He told the students to be confident, optimistic and perform to their best.

He said that no student was inferior and with right guidance anyone could achieve something.

He announced that a similar job fair would be in Chickballapur on July 14 and 15 (Mr. Moily is Chickballapur MP). The event, this year, is expected to attract 200 to 250 companies and close to 20,000 students. Chairman of the Alva's Education Foundation M. Mohan Alva told the presspersons that this year the event had been organised in a very systematic manner.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
