Belthangady, May 13: Stating that violent reactions will kill innocents, Pejawar Mutt chief pontiff Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji said that Naxal movement could be checked only through non-violence.

Interacting with the forest dwellers of Kudremukh National Park, at Malige mane in Sulkerimogru in Belthangady taluk on Saturday, he said that he will try to solve the problems related to Naxal movement after holding talks with the government.

He laid the foundation for the road and drinking water scheme which was taken up by the Pejawar mutt. He said that the work should be completed within a year.

He said the proposed Tiger project has made the people to worry over their future. The government should not implement any programmes that would affect the citizens.

Welcoming the Naxal surrender pacakge announced by the government, the seer said the Naxals should be brought to the mainstream of the society.

They should fight for their rights in a democratic set up.

He said four naxals surrendering in Chikmagalur is a welcome move. However, the government has failed to hand over land and sites for those who have surrendered before the police.

He said the police and forest department should work with the people and try to solve their problems.

No one will be benefited from the Naxal activities. The Naxals should come out of the violent methods.”

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
