Mangalore, May 19: Nearly a year after a mother and daughter were murdered in Panjimogaru, here, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched the investigation.
35-year-old Razia and her 8-year-old daughter Fathima Zuha were stabbed to death in the broad daylight on June 28, 2011.
A team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police from the CID's Homicide and Burglary division visited the place of incident a few days ago. They had discussions with family members of the deceased and the city police personnel who had been involved in the investigation, police sources said.
According to the First Information Report filed by Mangalore Rural Police, Razia (35) was stabbed on the chest and hand and her body was found outside her two-storey house.
Her daughter Fathima Zuha was stabbed on the chest and her body was in the living room.
The incident occurred 30 minutes after Razia's husband P. Hameed, a scrap merchant, had left the house.
From the scene of the offence, the police found that some known person had murdered the two.
The perpetrator had entered the house through the rear door of the house just a few minutes after the maid servant had left the house. Razia had locked the front door from inside as the maid servant left.
The initial suspicion was on Hameed.
The police checked Hameed's movements and his mobile phone call records and then ruled out his involvement.
The Mangalore Rural police picked up a few suspects, who were freed following allegations of police harassment.
Despite reconstructing the scene of offence several times, the city police found it hard to find the reason for the murder that would lead to the perpetrator.
Commissioner of Police Seemant Kumar Singh ordered for transfer of the case to the CID in April first week.
