Mangalore, May 19: A 35-year-old man, who was missing since the last few days, was confirmed dead on Saturday by Mangalore police.

Abdul Razzak, a resident of Kukkila near Vittal in Bantwal taluk was missing since May 14.

Though his dead body was found lying near Noor Masjid at Hampankatta, here, very next day, police had failed to identify it. Pandeshwar police had shifted the dead body, which bore injury marks around the neck, for postmortem and registered a case.

According to his wife Zohra, who had filed a missing complaint in the jurisdictional Vittal police station, Abul Razzak had left home last Monday evening.

After a couple of hours Abdul Razzak called the landline and asked his 7-year-old daughter to inform latter's mother that he would return home next day. “That was his last call”, said Zohra.

It is learnt that when the family members of Abdul Razzak wanted to see the unclaimed dead body on Thursday after three days of wait, police had discouraged them saying that it might not be his dead body.

However, a shock awaited the family members on Saturday, when they saw the unclaimed dead body at the mortuary of Government Wenlock Hospital, with the help of a doctor, sources said.

The body was later handed over the family members for last rites.
