BWF decennial celebration: Another mass wedding on Nov 4

Mangalore, August 4: Formed in 2002, Bearys' Welfare Forum (BWF)-Abu Dhabi is holding its decennial celebrations this year.

An organization based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, BWF is a union of expat Bearys hailing from coastal Karnataka. Social service, special encouragement to education, awards and felicitations for talented people and achievers are some of the activities of the organization.

It has been organizing events like harmony meets, Iftar parties, family picnics, Eid Milan, talent day, Independence Day, Republic Day celebrations and so on over the years. It aims to work for the overall development and addressing of the problems of the community.

With its anti-dowry stance, BWF has organized mass weddings for the poor in 2008, 2009 and 2011. A total of 45 couples have been married off by the organization so far.

During the 2009 mass wedding programme, selected physically challenged persons were provided with wheel chairs and other equipment. The organization has also constructed a house for the poor besides building 50 toilets in different taluks of the district, says Mohammed Ali Uchil, President, BWF.

This year's mass wedding programme is scheduled to be held on November 4, at Milagres auditorium in Mangalore. 20 couples will be married off this year. The organization will bear expenses of gold, wedding garments, financial aid for groom, and wedding expenses of Rs. 1.5 lakh for each couple. The process of selection of couples will begin next month, Mr. Uchil has said.

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru CEN police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly posting provocative and misleading content on an Instagram page named “mr_a_titude”, targeting the Bajpe police.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H identified the arrested as Abhishek M, a resident of Katipalla in Mangaluru.

A case has been registered at the Bajpe Police Station under Sections 353(1)(c), 353(2), 56, and 57 read with Section 189 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the post.

According to police, the accused uploaded a photograph of a hotel on the Instagram page and alleged that accused persons in a murder case under the Bajpe police jurisdiction were being given “royal treatment” by the police, including being served beef meals daily from the hotel.

The post further accused the police of supporting criminals, misusing their authority, and betraying public trust. Police said the content was provocative in nature and aimed at inciting public outrage against the police.

Following the post, a case was registered at the Bajpe police station, and further investigation was transferred to the CEN police station.

Police records indicate that the accused has a criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder, assault, and robbery at the Surathkal Police Station, and one case at the Kaup Police Station.

The Commissioner said the accused was traced and arrested using technical evidence.
